Referral program terms
Auto 1 Oil Company · Lehi, Utah · Last updated October 21, 2026
These terms cover Auto 1 Oil Company’s customer referral program (the “program”). By signing up as a referrer you agree to them. “We” and “Auto 1” mean Auto 1 Oil Company; “you” means the referrer.
1. Who can join
Anyone 18 or older with a valid email and mobile number. Auto 1 Oil employees can’t join — referral bonuses for employees go through payroll instead (ask the office). One referral account per person.
Your referral login opens only your own referral dashboard — your link, the customers you added and your rewards. It never shows other customers’ or Auto 1’s information. You can message the Auto 1 office from your dashboard.
2. Who counts as a referral
- New customers only — a business that isn’t already buying from Auto 1 Oil.
- One referrer per customer. A business you add is yours for 60 days (one 30-day extension with our OK). Once they’re a customer, they stay yours until they go 90 days without an order. If two people add the same business, the first valid claim keeps it (section 3).
- No self-referrals. You can’t refer yourself or a business you own.
- You may not refer a business you work for, or act for, if you influence what it buys — unless that business knows about the reward and agrees in writing.
- Adding a customer. Only after you’ve talked with someone who makes the business’s buying decisions (section 3). Then share a link made for them — they fill in their own contact information and the new-customer packet when they sign up. Or ask us to call them: send us their name (the business or the person), a phone number or email, and their address. Either way, tell us who you talked to, their role, when and how you talked, and the next step.
- When a customer counts. Once their account is set up — every document in their new-customer packet is in (a customer profile sheet, a W-9, a TC-721 if they’re tax-exempt, and a credit card or ACH authorization) — and we approve the referral.
3. Customer Claim Policy
Adding a business is how you claim it — and a claim is earned by real work on that business, not by getting there first with a list. In short: A business you add is yours for 60 days while you work on it — we can extend it once by 30 days. If it isn’t a customer by then, the claim ends and you can’t add it again for 90 days. You can have up to 25 open claims at a time.
- Proof of contact required. You may add a business only after direct contact with someone who makes its buying decisions — a meeting, a phone call, or an email or text exchange. When you add it, tell us who you talked to, their role, when and how you talked, and the next step. Lists of names, directories and scraped contacts don’t count.
- Open claim limit. You can hold up to 25 open claims at a time. You can add a new one only when one of yours becomes a customer, expires, or you release it (from your referral dashboard).
- Claim expiration. A claim lasts 60 days from the day you add it. If the business isn’t a customer by then, the claim ends and the business goes back to the open pool. Auto 1 may extend a claim once, by 30 days, when you’ve made real progress — ask the office before it ends; the extension is our decision. Once the business is a customer, the customer rule in section 2 applies.
- No cooling-off loophole. If your claim ends — it expires, you release it, or we close it — you can’t add that business again for 90 days.
- First valid claim wins. When two people claim the same business, the earliest claim that meets all of the above keeps it. Ties and disputes are decided by Auto 1 Oil, and our decision is final.
- Customer choice. If the business itself tells us who it worked with, that choice controls — no matter who added it first.
- Bad-faith claims. We may reject bulk, speculative or false claims. Repeated abuse can mean losing the ability to add businesses, or removal from the program.
4. What you earn
You earn 1¢ a gallon of fuel and 10¢ a gallon of motor oil your customers buy, for their first 6 months — counted only on the gallons your referred customer buys and pays for in that time. Fuel means diesel and gasoline. The current rates are always shown on the sign-up page and in your referral dashboard.
Rewards are only sent once the customer pays. An order that hasn’t been paid for doesn’t earn anything yet. This keeps the program fair and keeps fraud out.
After the customer pays, each reward waits a hold period (currently 30 days) before it can be paid to you. Credits, refunds and returns reduce rewards by the gallons they take back — even after the reward was earned.
5. Approval and fraud
Auto 1 approves each referral. We may decline a referral, or withhold or take back rewards, if we believe there’s been fraud, abuse, a mistake, or a break of these terms — for example made-up customers, orders placed only to earn rewards, or a customer who was already buying from us.
6. Getting paid
- Payouts are made once your ready rewards reach the minimum payout (currently $25.00).
- We pay by ACH (direct deposit) or check.
- Before we can pay you, we need your W-9. QuickBooks (Intuit) emails you a secure link to fill it in. Your tax information (W-9) is entered directly with QuickBooks (Intuit) through their secure link — it is not stored on Auto 1 Oil’s software.
7. Taxes
Referrers are independent contractors, not employees. We send a Form 1099-NEC when the law requires it (currently when we pay you $2,000 or more in a calendar year). You’re responsible for your own taxes on what you earn.
8. Sharing your link
Be honest about Auto 1 Oil and the program. Don’t send spam, don’t pretend to work for Auto 1, and don’t promise prices, discounts or terms — our office sets those with each customer.
9. Changes
Auto 1 can change or end the program, its rates or these terms at any time. Rewards you’ve already earned under the old terms are honored: a reward is earned when your customer pays for the order, and it keeps the rate in force on that day — a later rate change never raises or lowers it (credits and refunds still come off it, as in section 4). Orders your customer hasn’t paid for yet earn at the rate in force when they pay. If you break these terms, we may pause or close your referral account.
